    Thickening is more likely due to corking. When the plant gets too heavy, the base will start to slowly crack, and the cracks will heal with a brown, crusty scar tissue. At that point, it’s often a good idea to either stake it for extra support or chop it up and propagate the pieces. Ultimately it’s an aesthetic choice, and you’re nowhere near that point yet. But when you do start to see corking, if you leave it long enough, it will eventually topple over.

    These are pretty easy to care for imo, but you’ll want to give it TONS of light if that reddish color is important to you. Congrats on your new addition, she’s a beauty! 😁
