Crazy white pine with the lowest branch from middle trunk goes straight into the trunk on the left side of this picture. Its almost like it supports it from falling away from the middle trunk.

What causes this, looks natural, but have this dumb thought that someone tried this entionally along time ago? Never seen anything like it…

I might have to get a better picture now that I look at this again.

  1. It’s called codominance.

It’s likely not true inosculation because that limb looks straight dead to the trunk, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in pines, but it may be possible.

I suppose long ago, the horizontal branch grew towards the other and it was probably rubbing, making a wound. The tree closed the wound around the 2 branches and included it into the trunk.

Google the human centipede and u may have a slight understanding of what’s happening with the tree

Octopine, you see in the lower left a big limb grafted into a big leader, that leader tore out in a big wind, the limb was ripped out of the leader. I carved a bench out of it and the remnant of the limb holds it from rocking

White pine weevil causes this type of deformity.
