FORTY FORT, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — In September, FOX56 met with Ed and Trudi Kopec as they set up “Kiddie Playland” at Edward’s Garden Center.

Admission to the fall-themed playland was $10 a child, and all money raised was donated to Breakthrough T1D, to raise money for Type One Diabetes Research.

Their goal at the beginning of the season was to raise $25,000.

When Kiddie Playland closed, the donation amount totaled $31,000.

“We’re blown away by it,” said Ed Kopec.

Each year, the fundraiser ends with the Breakthrough T1D walk at Citizen’s Bank Park.

This year, over 300 teams participated, raising a total of $1.25 million dollars for Type One Diabetes research.

The Edward’s Garden Center team contributed the second highest amount to that total.

“It gives you an unbelievable feeling when you’re there and you just see so many people gathered and trying to find a cure for this rotten disease,” said Ed Kopec.
