First year doing raised beds in NC. Nothing was there before, just grass. Ordered the beds, set them up, weed barriered the whole area, deer fenced it, mulched it, filled the beds, planted. Got through 3 seasons! Did lettuce, tomato, every common herb, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, onions, ginger, leeks, zucchini, cucumber, potatoes, peppers.
My father passed the 12th of January and I didn't think I was gonna get to it this year. But I managed to do all of this and get a degree. Walking out there into the garden energizes me daily. If you're looking to pick up gardening, this is your sign to start in 2026!

Everything you have has an incredible lack of pest damage, we’ve been hit so hard with EVERYTHING! Carrot fly, slugs, squash bugs, stink bugs, cucumber beetles… It’s a miracle my garden can produce anything except pests
I’m building some bird nests to increase natural predators, buying more netting for next season
What a haul! Looks like you have plenty more to collect, no?
Btw, don’t trash your carrot greens (if you haven’t already). They make a great pesto!
