It’s looked like this for nearly a year, I try to water once a month or so but my green thumb for succulents is nonexistent. The window is North facing, it’s the only one that I can put plants at

I think it’d be kinder to put it out of its misery tbh

Or just repot it in something it that doesn’t look like the remnants of an ashtray and it’ll thrive, they’re exceptionally hardy.

You can try to save it, but not in that pot – the soil looks so compacted and dry that it’s not getting enough water. And I’d warrant it doesn’t get fertilized very often, if at all.

Take it out of that pot and repot into fresh soil, in a pot with drainage. Pull off the completely dead leaves, and make sure the stem is covered with soil until just below where the living leaves start. Maybe also put it into a smaller pot if the root system isn’t too big for it; aloe seem to like to be a little more tightly potted. Water when it is dried out, not on a schedule, and water deeply when you do. You may also want to fertilize when you repot, and you will want to fertilize regularly afterwards. You may end up needing to give it more light, but I have a giant aloe in a north-facing window that’s absolutely thriving, so YMMV. You need to prioritize repotting in any event.
