Considering your comb over bend is also the apex, I think it should fill in. It’s already decently hidden, although that might be the lighting of your picture.
I have a couple pre-bonsai that I have a similar issue with. For now the comb overs hidden since I’ve been letting them run wild, however I worry once I start refining they’ll reappear.

Here’s your tree in the wild in Capital Reef NP Utah! The live part comes from a low branch that split and is barely hanging on. The ground supports the limb.
