Is there any way I can save this felled tree in my backyard? It was blown over by last night's heavy winds and it's still connected by the base. I really want to repair this tree if it's at all possible because we get a lot of brushtail possums and this tree is their absolute favourite; they like to jump from the poles to the branches like a giant jungle gym. I'm worried that losing this tree will make the brushies come over less frequently and potentially be more vulnerable to the local strays.

Without seeing the breaking point, I kinda wanna say that this one is gone.

I know, there will be at least one guy who tries to tell you, that it can be saved…but lets be real.

There are chances, that it could live on like this and all is “good”.
But do you really wanna give half your garden to a fallen tree?

You will never be able to erect it like it was and even if you prune it to the bones,
it will be spectacularly unsafe for everyone walking around there.
As we see, it was unsafe even before.

Cut it up and be done with it.

The half of the tree that remains can still grow. Its branches will reach out to the sun and eventually take the place of a fallen tree. The part of the tree that has fallen must be cut down. It is advisable to treat the wound at the fracture site from rotting.
