BOWIE COUNTY, Texas — Aspiring Bowie County Master Gardeners have three opportunities in November to meet current members and learn about joining the green-thumbed group of community volunteers.
BCMG has scheduled informal public meet-and-greets in Texarkana, Maud and DeKalb. “Come have a cup of coffee with us and visit about gardening and volunteering in the community,” the group said in a news release.
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service teaches BCMG volunteers the art and science of horticulture. Members receive current, research-based training from Extension Service educators and industry experts. In turn, members volunteer their expertise and services to help others through activities and projects in their communities. New training classes are scheduled for January.
BCMG provides educational opportunities to the public through monthly seminars offered at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, to school children through in-school and after-school curriculum enrichment on plants and nutrition, to residents at assisted living facilities who wish to spend some time outside gardening, and to adult clients of day programs in the area.
Master Gardeners also meet monthly to continue their education and discuss projects for members.
