Car ran straight into my tree, I believe it is a fruitless olive. Will it survive?
Tree was planted in 2014. Took the full impact of a sedan at 35mph. Seems to be stable still, but it has tilted and moved several inches from where it was.
This tree might survive…it has about half of its trunk still intact. However, that open wound will most likely begin to decay long before the tree can close it off. Considering its location next to the road, this could become a high risk tree in a few years.

Good to know a tree is an excellent car stopper! The tree may live for many years, it could outlive you! Or this could be the reason it doesn’t live more than more 5 years. Your best bet is to keep an eye on it over the next few years to see how it reacts, and during that time you can learn about what to replace it with

Get up right now, Put the bark back on, slather Vaseline on the perimeter, use a roll of Saran Wrap to secure it in place. Do this stat. It might be too late, but it might actually reattach itself and dramatically slow down or reduce decay of tree parts.

It will wear those scars forever. But will likely live a long long time.

The bark isn’t damaged completely around the trunk. So I think it will be fine

No, the car won’t survive, but that’s not important right now.
