The Delhi Police have arrested a gardener employed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after he allegedly forged the official letterhead of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Delhi, and duped patients and hospitals into believing he held a senior government post.

According to Delhi Police, the accused, identified as a 27-year-old gardener based in Karol Bagh, collected original letters from the CMO’s office from the MCD mail section and used them to create fake “free-treatment” certificates. He then approached private hospitals, saying he was an officer with the CMO and that patients were eligible under the economically weaker section (EWS) quota.

Police say he submitted letters to multiple hospitals, including Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, BLK Super Speciality Hospital, and Sir Ganga Ram Hospita,l in which he demanded their cooperation in treating patients free under the EWS scheme. Once the hospitals accepted, he reportedly collected about ₹5,000 per patient.

“His calls originated from an MCD office in Karol Bagh,” a police spokesperson told Hindustan Times. “We tracked him to his residence in Tagore Garden and found forged letterheads, fake ID cards, and a motorcycle whose number plate was tampered.”

The investigation revealed that the scam spanned over five to six months. Officials emphasised the case shows how fraudsters can exploit government schemes and the use of official-looking materials to win cooperation from institutions and sufferers alike.
