Got her off of Etsy. When she arrived she had a brown spot on the top right. Etsy seller suggested it was stress from shipping. I used clean scissors and cut off the brown spot.
I’ve been bottom watering, using a grow light and repotted in high nutrient soil.
What is going on with her ? Such a beauty and I’m disappointed with the spotting situation.

Pots far too big & substrate is WAY too dense & moist. Monsteras are aroids. They need to be in a super chunky substrate & don’t like having wet feet.
Insufficient light exposure during shipping will cause the white parts to senesce, but cutting into living tissue kills the plant cells so all of that is necrotizing as well. The other comment has good points about planting. Definitely increase light exposure and stop cutting it. 💚
edit: the planting depth must be resolved immediately. Just remove the excess soil from the top of the pot.
It is planted way too deep, in too large of a pot, and the soil is too organic.
The base of the petiole must be above the soil or the plant will yellow the whole leaf.
The pot should be slightly larger than the root mass. My guess is max 4″ for this plant currently.
A good soil mix is 1:1:1 potting mix, reptibark, and perlite. Straight potting mix is too dense for 99% of houseplants and is meant to be used outdoor.
Happens to mine too. I’ve not cut away the “brown” cause it will make it worse.
I’ve fallen out of love with Thai monstera for this reason. It needs a new home.
I’ll stick with plain ol green monsteras. They’re pretty all the time, not just when they feel like it!
The way I ran to the comments because I have the EXACT same problem!
I’m at the end(hopefully) of this happening-had some root rot starting got her dried out and is now doing well! Good luck!💚
take out pot and unbury petioles, repot in chunky soil in a pot no more than two inches/sizes bigger then root ball, don’t water the first day of repotting, water the second day with silica based product. And give her lots of light she needs it for white/creme areas to survive
