Husband gave me these roses a while back. Came in the little pot and a plastic cover around the bottom. The soil felt damp so I didn’t water it. Didn’t pull off the pot cover either (maybe this is where I went wrong) and just put it on top of a bookshelf.

Today when I checked, it’s looking sad. I took off the cover to see if the airflow will help. Lots of dry leaves and buds turning black at the stem. Is it still salvageable or did I kill it? 😭

Living condition of said plant: indoor, on top of a bookshelf in the living room. Has access to indirect sunlight (not much recently since it’s been stormy where I am). Caretaker has experience with not killing cacti, snake plants, African violets, and peacock plants 🙋🏻‍♀️

Outdoor, direct sun, asap. Those are not meant for inside and you can still save him

So roses are outdoor plants period, and are also mostly full (direct) sun plants. So although they can live indoors, they will never thrive /:

Outdoor is the current answer. Just out of curiosity, how long have you had it, how frequently have you watered, and how much light was it getting (how far from a window, what aspect is the window, how high is the top of the bookshelf)?

I would treat it similar to a succulent. It wants all the direct sun and to dry out a bit between waterings. It would be happiest if you planted it in the yard in a sunny spot, but I realize that’s not always an option.

Not just outdoor, but planted in the ground if possible.
