Hi everyone, I moved into a home with 3 big crepe myrtles. One of them has obvious scale and aphid and another one is started to get scale as well. I want to kill those insects as well as prevent them from coming to my trees. I found "BIOADVANCED
4 lbs. Ready-to-Use Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Granules" from Home depot and reading the instructions to see how much I need to put down seems to be 27 cups per tree which sounds like a lot to me but maybe thats normal.

Has anyone used this product before and also put down a lot of the insecticide?

Sum of the trunks at 4.5 ft: 144.5

I have always understood that you only use the 2 largest trunks in the calculation. I don’t know where I got that information originally. I had scale about 6 years ago and I use this product every year and it’s a very healthy tree now. For me this was about 5-6 cups per application

I haven’t used that, but I sprayed Neem oil on mine and it went away. Not sure if it took a whole season but the tree is thriving two years later. I think Neem oil is more natural and safer, so I’d take a look at it at least.

I use the liquid product and drench in the spring before the scale crawl. The product is from Fertilome, Home Depot may still carry it. Aggie Horticulture has lots of info on this problem and identifies a few chemicals that prevent it. The remedy is seasonal though. I sprayed the heck out of my trees during the active growing season with different insecticides without killing the established bugs.
