We are in the process of buying a house that has a huge garden area. I would love some tips from what to do this winter to get the space ready, what plants to plant in the spring, how to keep pests out! I am in Denver Colorado! I literally know zero about gardening so all the advice please!! (Sorry for the repost. Wouldn’t let me add my location)

I would hesitate to do too much this winter, from personal experience. I have found it is best to take a season and see how the sun hits various parts of the yard before doing too much. That way you can best optimize your beds and plantings.

Maybe use containers for the first season.

Of course if you happen to already know, that changes things.

Correct if I’m wrong but the area your pointing out is on the north side of the building? (Based on the suns location in your video)

Honestly, once you get the hang of gardening, this garden will not be big enough.

  4. I would look up what fruit trees grow in your area and plant a small orchard. But that’s me, free fruit every year and no replanting, plus some shade

While some people’s advice to show down and watch how it behaves the first year, I’d sheet mulch start building compost as that’s only going to help you down the road

What are you looking to grow? If you dont know, what vegetables do you and your family eat? Together we can figure out a plen to help and figure out what to plant and when. Gardening is easy 🙂

You have to remove the house so you can get some more sunlight back there

Take all the leaves and store them in bags, you will have lovely mulch come spring!
