Mums are incredibly easy to grow and they spread. If you want the huge blooms, they sell them with, you just pinch off 1/2 the buds.

This is very cool, I’m glad you decided to keep them. I wish society would abolish the mindset of discarding plants after they bloom, what an “ultra capitalist buy buy buy!” Behavior. My mom always did it with orchids until I forced myself to learn orchid care to save them and she stopped that habit , and even stopped buying (out of shame maybe) because I can take care of them and she can’t lol. Idk.

Wow! Beautiful. Question – if you leave it over the winter potted, will they come back? Or should you plant them to keep them coming year round? Wondering if I should plant mine that are potted.

gorgeous! How long do they keep their flowers in Season?

I have some potted mums that didn’t bloom that will. I don’t think they got enough sun.

My mom disliked cut flowers and always sent live plants or planted trees in lieu of floral arrangements to funerals. So for her memorial service, we had live floral arrangements including some potted mums. I brought them home and left them outside for awhile, then tossed them in my garage at some point in early winter well after they died back. In the spring I noticed new growth under the dead stuff, so I planted them. In one season they took over almost the entire bed I planted them in. Right around the 1 year anniversary of her passing, the mums exploded with blooms.

Good job, I haven’t had success with planting the mums. This is quite the show.

A friend gave us a big potted mum for my FIL’s funeral in 2020. The cemetery is in a remote, hot, dry area and I knew it wouldn’t survive long there, so I brought it home and planted it in front of my south-facing porch. It’s survived four Zone 7a winters so far, and it blooms every year. I cut it way back at the end of winter, and it just keeps on growing!

That’s wonderful! Your mums will likely bloom even more beautifully next year. 🌸
