A 10-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after becoming “partially impaled” on metal railings in Walton this afternoon. Emergency services, including police, paramedics and firefighters, were called to Wadeson Road at around 3.25pm on Friday, October 31 following reports a child had been injured in an accident involving his bicycle.
When the ECHO arrived at the scene, a cordon was in place at the junction of Wadeson Road and Frampton Road. According to residents, the boy was riding around a corner when he appeared to lose control of his bike and fell onto a garden fence.
One neighbour told the ECHO: “I was hoovering and didn’t hear anything until the police knocked on my door and asked me for my camera footage. There was police everywhere, around seven cars. It was scary.
“The boy was shouting ‘it’s my stomach, my stomach,’ and a neighbour came out to help him and phoned for an ambulance.”
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called at 3.22pm and arrived on scene within five minutes, sending two fire engines and a search and rescue team.

A spokesperson said: “Fire crews have been called to assist North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Merseyside Police at an incident in Wadeson Road in Walton, Liverpool this afternoon. Crews were alerted at 3.22pm and on scene at 3.27pm, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team in attendance.
“Crews arrived to find a casualty had become partially impaled on a garden railing. Crews liaised with NWAS paramedics on scene to establish the best way forward to remove the conscious and breathing casualty from the railing.
While the casualty was administered pain relief by a paramedic, the casualty was released from the railings and into the care of paramedics for onward transport to hospital. Crews left the scene at 3.38pm.”
Merseyside Police confirmed officers attended the scene to assist emergency services.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm emergency services attended an accident in Walton this afternoon, Friday, October 31.
“At around 3.25pm North West Ambulance Service reported that a 10-year-old boy was involved in an accident while riding a pedal bike on Wadeson Road. Nobody else was involved.
“The boy was taken to hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.”
