I got this repotted snake plant for free off Facebook marketplace. It’s my first snake plant so I don’t know much about them. It sits in indirect sunlight and I water it about once a week or whenever the soil is dry. What is this growing in the pot with it? Is it the start of a new leaf or some kind of weed?

    1. Those are flowers. Congrats. I’m not jealous or anything.
    2. You’re going to drown it watering it that frequently; they are super prone to root rot. They like potting mediums that are inorganic. So a lot of sand, rocks. Things that don’t hold moisture.

    That’s a flower.

You are watering it wayyyyy too much. My snake plants typically get watered about every 4-6 weeks.

Water it maybe every 3 weeks in the summer and every 5 to 6 in the winter. If you live in a colder climate. If you live in a warmer climate every 3 weeks to a month is fine for these plants. They like a lot of indirect light but can survive without much, but won’t thrive.

As others have said, those are flowers. BUT that’s not necessarily a good sign in a plant that doesn’t have much foliage and is receiving, as others have suggested, too much water. Plants will also flower or clone when they’re under stress in a desperate attempt to perpetuate the species before they die. This plant should be focusing on new growth given how few leaves it has.

These thrive on neglect, do water it less as others have advised

In the summer I was watering mine weekly (when the soil dried up) and they started growing really quickly. I cut back the rate once fall rolls around (Jacksonville Florida)
