TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Botanical Garden wrapped up its month of Halloween celebrations with BOOtanical which was held every Thursday this month.

The garden was transformed into a glowing place where families walked lighted pathways and visited booths that was a mix of fun and learning which included hands-on games and activities about insects.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Lori Hutson, Director of Communications and Outreach at Tulsa Botanic Garden. “We’re hearing from a lot of families that are coming out, kind of wanting something a little different and just doing as much fun as they can with their Halloween in October and fall activities.”

Hutson said the event does include trick or treating, but also includes children going to stations and learning about things such as the monarch butterfly, their life cycles and what hazards they face.

“It’s kind of a little bit of a learning experience, but very much still fun. Our chidlren’s garden is very decorated with lights, we threw a fog machine in there so there’s a lot of fun activities…but hopefully a little bit of learning as well and of course the candy.”

Hutson said there has been a lot of interest in monarchs this past few years and learning about their migration.

“They’re a beautiful insect and we just thought that was a great way to highlight that and we see them a lot in our garden when they are migrating through; they’re already pretty much gone now, but it’s something we see alot and definitely have the plants to talk about, but also just encourage people to learn more about it.”

Hutson also said with the transition into fall, they have several holiday workshops coming up and will later move into their Botanic Garden of Lights.
