With the clocks going back last weekend, reduced daylight hours are about to become our winter reality. If you dread coming home from work in the dark, it might be worth investing in a set of solar-powered outdoor lights to illuminate the way to your front door, and we’ve found one Amazon set that’s currently on sale.

These Seklin outdoor lights are currently 37% off, with the price for a pack of four down to £19 from their original price of £30. A pack of six is also available for £29.99, down from £39.99, and packs of eight are available at full price for £49.99.

The lights work with 238 ultra-bright LEDs and are equipped with motion detection technology that registers movement up to 16 feet away. They have three brightness settings and cover an ultra-wide lighting angle of up to 270 degrees, making them ideal for illuminating outdoor areas without the need for annoying wires. And if you’re worried about security, the lights can serve a dual purpose: alerting you in case someone walks in front of them, and simultaneously deter potential intruders.

These outdoor lights are made from waterproof material, making them ideal for patios, fences and gardens, but they could also be installed in a shed or a garage. They come with screws that can be used to secure them in place, but the brand also suggests using double-sided tape as a quick and easy alternative. As they are solar-powered, they’re also environmentally friendly.

The lights have over 7,000 reviews on Amazon, of which nearly 5,000 are positive. One shopper wrote: “Perfect lights, they go on in the dark so you can see where your keys, etc., are when outside. No electric being used so perfect for money-saving as well. Would recommend.”

A second five-star review said: “I like that they charge up quickly in the day and give off a warm, steady glow all evening, plus they’re simple to add to the walls with no wiring. And the motion detection is very sensitive, which is great for security.”

Another shopper, who said they ordered a second set after liking their first purchase, said: “They light up my garden extremely well at 3am when the dog needs the toilet, and they even work great in the winter months when it’s dark and frosty. They come with everything needed to mount them.”

“The LED lights are bright enough to light up paths, flower beds, or around the patio without being too harsh,” wrote another.

However, one customer pointed out that, as they are solar-powered, the lights may not receive enough charge in England’s gloomy winter weather. They said: “I would say this device is OK for sunny places. Batteries die very quickly during the wintertime when there are fewer sunny days than during the summer.”

However, another shopper found the product performed well during colder periods, writing: “Really pleased with these. It can be a bit tricky working out which mode they are on, but once set up, they are great, and I have purchased an additional pack. Battery seems decent enough to work fine in the depths of winter in the South of the UK when on motion only mode.”
