There were five conifer species in this stunted mowed area: hemlock, spruce, redcedar, white pine, and lodgepole. I dug a few with thicker trunks that have been mowed for multiple years but survived. We'll see if they survive being pruned and potted.

Not without explicit permission to dig on private property.

My bosses always said roadside plants are hardier because they come “pre-abused”

Yeah, I also try my best to follow rules. Seems like OP is following the rules. Well done, OP!

  4. It’s basically the only place I’m willing to tbh, unless it’s a non native tree that needs to go anyways. The whole yamadori “thing” is still shocking to me lol

I have a few trees that that were going to be cut by the township because they were growing into the road.

It’s illegal for us in Australia to take Trees from the Forest.
They don’t much like anyone taking them from the side of the road either but on many occasions I’ve showed photos & written Letters to the Council out of 60 letters less than 30 have been approved.
Some I have just taken anyway ad trees that close to the Road are a danger. 🤷‍♀️
But this will vary in Countries & States as well.
