Been working on this for a couple of weeks. Just finished planting today. Here are the particulars:
I’ve been working on the rock arrangement for a couple of weeks. Finally settled on one I like. Yesterday I made the pond. Got it planted today & it will be under a grow light 12 hours a day.
Construction is egggrate, topped with filter floss then topped the floss with landscape fabric. Pond made from expanding foam. Rocks glued with cotton & superglue.
Filled with tap water which I’ll top up as needed to keep my tiny circulating pump underwater. Experience with another dish tells me that will be about every 2 days.
The dish is powder coated metal, 9x14x2”. Substrate for ferns is potting soil and sphagnum moss. The live moss is placed directly on the landscape fabric, which stays damp to pretty wet, depending on location. I expect the moss will find some spots too wet, in which case, I’ll elevate those areas with the substrate mix.

Good luck.
Want to build one just like yours one day, great job!!
Oh yes thats beautiful, i love the box you got for it it’s so minimal !

What kind of pump did you use? And how do you keep it clean?
How often do you need to top off the water lost to evaporation?
