The Titusville Police Department has announced an arrest in connection with a shooting that took place earlier this month in the 400 block of Garden Street.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, October 6, 2025, has been classified as an act of self-defense by the victim following an attempted armed robbery.

Titusville Police Department Criminal Investigations Detectives concluded their investigation on Friday, October 24, 2025, leading to the arrest of Hunter John Carlson, 28, of Titusville, Florida.
Carlson faces the following charges:
• 1 count of Attempted Armed Robbery
• 1 count of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

Investigation Details and Self-Defense Finding
According to a news release issued by Sergeant Bryan Nelson, investigators were able to piece together the sequence of events using video surveillance footage and multiple witness statements. The investigation determined that Carlson and the adult male victim were previously acquainted prior to the incident.

The encounter took place at a local restaurant after business hours. Detectives found that Carlson had armed himself with a firearm and, in the presence of the victim, began waving and pointing the weapon while demanding money.
The victim, acting in an act of self-defense, armed himself and subsequently shot Carlson. The victim remained at the scene following the shooting and has been fully cooperative with law enforcement throughout the investigation.

Carlson was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Upon his release, detectives served an arrest warrant, which was executed by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Carlson was booked into the Brevard County Jail on Saturday, October 25, 2025, on a $55,000 bond and was release on October 27, 2025

Detective Sergeant Bryan Nelson commented on the nature of the investigation that led to the charges against Carlson.
“Our investigators conducted a thorough investigation to establish a better understanding of what took place during this isolated incident between individuals who know each other. The video footage, witness statements, and physical evidence found during the investigation appeared consistent with the reported sequence of events provided by the victim, which ultimately led to Carlson’s arrest.”
The Titusville Police Department considers the case closed with the victim’s actions found to be justified self-defense in response to Carlson’s attempted robbery.
