The walking trails near my house have these grasses that are really pretty in the fall. Considering redoing our front lawn and these caught my eye. Google hasn't been much help. I live in northern California (east of Sacramento) if it helps ID!

Pink Mully Grass. It’s gorgeous, resilient, and extremely easy to grow in arid climates. It’s also incredibly invasive and one of the culprits on how destructive the fires in Maui were. I have a love/hate relationship with it.

As much as I love pink muhly grass, I wouldn’t plant it if I lived in California. Your local bugs and birds depend on native plants. Please help your ecosystem and plant native.

Yep, pink muhly grass. I have two clumps of it in my North Texas garden. Not invasive here. Lovely, easy care.

I love this grass. See if it’s native to your area.

Sacramento here.  PLEASE be careful with grasses!!! So many are invasive.  Can i interest you in dear grass, a california native? (And one of my faves!)

It’s prohibited in California because of its contribution to wildfire fuel.
