The hospice in Kenton Grange has won a Gold award for its Memory Garden and a Gold for its Large Garden in the 2025 London hospices’ gardens competition, along with Silver for its patios and pots.

The team also received the London Hospices Bowl for “overall excellence”.

Gardening co-ordinator Jacki Baker accepted the prizes for St Luke’s at the awards night at the Guildhall in The City.

“Our team are all home-trained and not professional,” she said. “Many of us have been volunteering for years and come for our own reasons but love gardening. Some of us have been supported by the hospice in one way or another.”

This year’s success continues a long tradition, with the gardens being recognised by the London Gardens Society for more than 25 years.

St Luke’s chief executive Lindsey Bennister said: “Jacki and our volunteer gardeners put their hearts into everything they do. The gardens are a special part of the hospice, a place of calm, beauty and life.”

The volunteers pour time and dedication into every plant, bed and pathway throughout the year. Patients and visitors frequently describe the colourful gardens as a place of care and compassion.
