NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Heartland Community College dedicated a garden to one of its first employees on Tuesday.
The garden was dedicated to Ann Pontius, who joined the college as a lab assistant in 1992 and worked for the college for 29 years, Heartland spokesman Steve Fast said.
During her time at the college, she also worked as a Chemistry Technician, Program Facilitator, and Skills Evaluator. Pontius died last March at the age of 85.
“It is an honor to have this garden as a permanent part of the college,” said Heartland President Keith Cornille. “Ann made so many connections and helped students in so many ways. Her dedication to Heartland extended beyond her years of service on campus and also through the support she and Dave provided for the Heartland Foundation.”
The garden was created with contributions from the Pontius family, who were present to assist with the planting of some spring bulbs in the garden and the installation of a memorial plaque.
