The Good Food Guide has published its inaugural list of its 100 best pubs in the country, with Stourbridge’s own The Old Wharf Inn being named among the best of the best.

The independent canalside haunt came in at number 33, meaning it didn’t just make the list, but has earned its place among the top third of pubs in Britain.

Known for its cosy feel, ever-changing seasonal menu and prime location overlooking the canal basin, it’s not hard to see why The Old Wharf Inn is deserving of its praise.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be recognised among the Top 100 pubs in the country,” said Licensee, Jack Marks-Gardener. “And to place inside the Top 50 too! It’s an incredible feeling and a true testament to a team-wide commitment to excellence.

“From the kitchen to the bar, front of house to behind the scenes — as well as the ongoing support of the Stourbridge community.”

Proudly independent, The Old Wharf Inn has garnered many accolades since opening in 2019, including being praised as one of the best places in Britain to enjoy a Sunday roast.

Mr Marks-Gardener added: “Since day one, we’ve focused on quality produce and good service above all else — and now the accolades are the icing on the cake.

“We’re especially proud of our rotating real ales and wine list, along with a food menu built around seasonal produce.

“We work closely with local suppliers for our butchery and veg, ensuring every plate reflects the best the region has to offer.

“We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our loyal customers and everyone who continues to support us.

“We couldn’t have achieved this without you.”

In partnership with Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and supported by Tracklements and Koffmann’s Potatoes, The Good Food Guide set about making the list to support the pub industry amid challenging times

It said that “despite the doom and gloom picture of Britain’s pubs, with closures currently averaging one per day in 2025” it is celebrating the nation’s “thriving appetite for genuine pubs” with proper food and proper beer.

Crowned the Best in Britain was The Highland Laddie in Leeds.

Not only was the Old Wharf Inn flying the flag for the Black Country on the list, but it was also the only haunt in the West Midlands overall to make the cut.

Editor of The Good Food Guide, Chloë Hamilton, said: ‘We went searching for the pubs that nail the drinking and dining side of the equation.

“It turns out the harder you look the more you find, and they’re not all hidden away in the Cotswolds.

“The Highland Laddie – a city-centre slam dunk – is a very good case in point.”
