Instead of picking the piles of leaves by hand, think about using a long handle outside dustpan and broom. It works for me.
Me again, about the spider mites, would a systemic work better? I’m just curious.
That’s so sad about all that spider mite damage on the boxwoods 😢. Are you able to sheer the boxwoods back low to the ground and spray? Would they flush back?
You can kinsugi the broken pot.
Does PW no longer sell the Play in the Blues Salvia? I haven't not been able to find it the past 2 years.
I hope you will choose to repeat the pattern in that area of the boxwoods I’ve always loved the formality. I can definitely understand your frustration!
You will need a leaf vacuum attachment to a gator or tractor
If your taking out all those boxwood, have you thought of a low brick wall. Might be charming. Just a thought.
Will you need to replace the boxwoods that were so damaged from mites?
First, good morning, second, glad there was no major damage, third this was a very satisfying video for me. Your clean-ups always inspire and motivate me. I know it took you more than 34 minutes to do all that you did. I think many of us could watch 60 minutes of Garden Answer (strictly the garden). Could your editor include more footage and/or slow some of the footage down so the viewers can learn add much as possible. Including imperfections as well. Many of us are dealing with pests and failing projects as well.
That little nook under the elderberry screams for a bench❤
love it x ( u k )
Wow a lot of work but so beautiful. Good job. Question… what is the blower you were using? I have a very small one that doesn’t do a very good job. I could use a new one. Is it in your store?
What blower are you using?
What a difference a little clean up can do! Love the before and after! I have a quick question: with all the powdery mildew findings, did you clean your clippers in between to prevent the spread or is that not a concern?
Nobody
The person driving minivan watching this: 😬😬😬😬
I think the arb needles/leaves on the ground with the green of the roses bushes popping out is lovely. I am confused with my sprinters, they are like kind of your color, but some pieces are even red.. i am like.. wtf. I get it gardens grow and you have to cut back but for some reason I feel like all the effort goes into growing things but then you cut them back because well they grow. ha are the roses always going to get that leggy on top?
What a great cleanup of roses, leaves and willow. Thanks for showing the boxwoods you plan on replacing. Interesting to get a closeup view of spider mite damage and their growth habit. There is always that point with plants you say the struggle is over. Time to move on. Thanks for all you share. ❤❤❤
And that ladies and gentlemen is why the beautiful front gate. The people in that vehicle thought they could drive onto the property without permission. Thankfully, she/he stopped in time, so no more damage was done.
Great job Laura 👏 ❤
Good that you are taking the roses down a bit. I learned at a class conducted by local Rosarians that the main reason to take off the top half of roses in late fall is to protect the roots from winter wind damage due to strain on the roots.
There are probably ants close by that keep putting more spider mites on the plants. They farm it. That is a big problem here too. You have to control the spider mites and the ants for that to stop. =]
This was very energizing, Laura. Going with you to do those chores encourages me to do mine.
Could ya'll put a big sign at the entrance that says, 'PRIVATE PROPERTY'? It's your property, but it annoys me to see how much effort y'all have invested to have intruders damage it.
I'm so happy to hear you're removing the boxwood. Don't you think they'll establish better though if planted in the fall?
That was a lot of work! Looks great…….now you can enjoy the Family Pumpkin Carving!
So satisfying to see you tame those roses! Incredible how much they grow.
Your poor boxwood hedge. You and Aaron were talking about it in a recent highlights video, but we hadn’t seen much footage of these boxwoods. When you pull these, will you just try a different boxwood variety, or re-work the area altogether?
Of all places she can turn around that idiot of a women ran over your new planted boxwood.
I live in zone 9B (Central Valley CA). During our mild winters, most of my 100+ roses do NOT defoliate so they look OK until the big late winter/early spring cut back. I've found that aggressive "dead-heading" works best – – after each flush of blooms, I cut canes back as much as 12-24" depending on the variety. This controls size and and allows air circulation. I think it also prevents typical rose issues (like powdery mildew, black spot, etc), and only delays re-bloom a bit. I have pretty good soil that I mulch regularly with chopped leaves and compost. I fertilize just once a year with my own slow-release mix and the roses are healthy and happy.
Hey Laura. Love your videos. Instead of planting an other boxwood hedge on the westside, you could consider an arborvitea hedge. They are also evergreen and seem to be quite healthy in your garden. Maybe Tator Tots, which don`t get to tall anyway.
I love the version of “Faith I’ll Never Know” with the whistling! Do you pick the music? Is some of this music your favorite or is it completely random?
