Only to find out it's fruit! Never heard of it before, but Google says it's a Jabuticaba tree- and it's the first time in three years on our property, that I've ever noticed any fruit on it. The fruit is delicious and is like a bizarre cross between a lychee, grape and custard apple.
Super glad we found this little gem before we followed through with ripping this random tree out for a new driveway.

As a Brazilian, I sometimes forget that lots of people doesn’t know jabuticaba and it’s always funny seeing people find out about this weird tree that have fruits directly on its trunk and branches.
But yeah, it’s jabuticaba. You can make lots of stuff with them. Juice, jam, cake, ice cream, syrup, caipirinha, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and the list goes on.
Gosh, I wish I has a jabuticaba tree. Those are my favorite fruit!

I’m 45 and my mother made me drive her 45 minutes away to a special tree man who has these rare crazy expensive tropical fruit plant that you just happen to have a huge one of. $150Aud for a plant about 45 cm tall also incredibly slow growing.
