Sydney’s inner city could soon look a little greener. Under a $50 million proposal, Moore Park Golf Course, known for its skyline views and after-work tee-offs, will be completely transformed by 2028, with half its fairways changed into public parkland. The proposal, part of the NSW Government’s draft Moore Park South Establishment Plan, aims to create much-needed open space for residents in some of the city’s most densely populated suburbs while keeping golf as part of the picture. Here’s everything you need to know.

If approved, the Moore Park transformation project will convert around 20 hectares of the existing course into a new park filled with sports fields, cycling and walking paths, picnic areas, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Plans also include exercise stations, shaded seating, and lighting for evening use, with community feedback helping to shape extras such as a dog park or outdoor fitness zone. The goal is to provide nearby residents in Redfern, Waterloo, Zetland, and Green Square with a shared backyard in an area where private gardens are few and far between.

The state government has committed $50 million over the next three years to deliver the project, following earlier funding for design and consultation. Construction is expected to begin once the current golf lease ends in mid-2026, with parts of the park opening later that year and full completion set for the end of 2028. When complete, the revamped Moore Park South will add a stretch of lush green space, giving locals more room to walk, play, and unwind without having to leave the city.
