They’re a bit of the Cinderella in the plant world. There’s a lot more emphasis in our culture really on um you know irises and peies and ders and but the humble dilly is just quietly doing its thing in the background isn’t it? What is amazing is from the end of May throughout into September you’ve got blooms throughout the summer. So you know once the pianies have gone and the iris have gone the dillies are the ones that are giving them massive pops of color all the way through the summer flow because that when that comes up it’s got these lovely feeding stations where the flower comes from like it’ll have a stalk with three different heads on it. The architecture of them in winter is so beautiful and the birds can then come and feed at the different levels. Before I put compost in them I line them with bubble wrap. You just create a little bit of a gap and they’ve not damaged in any way. So, I don’t know whether that’s helped or not. Top tip.
