So many plants in one pot… how do I care for this?
Hi all!
We received a beautiful gift but we aren’t sure how to care for it. It seems there are a lot of different plants in one pot and we aren’t sure how to not kill it… help! TIA!
You water it however you feel like you want to then watch the hunger games proceed and the one that matches your natural watering habit will come out on top then repot and remove all the dead losers

I think you could carefully separate them! Or you could possibly pot the whole thing in a bigger better pot to give them more room.

Repot as a whole but provide a reservoir of argex in the bottom of the pot, separated with the soil by a cloth. The roots of all the plants will grow through the cloth into the waterreservoir and form waterroots. All the plants in your set can do this. After a while, only water the reservoir. This is how professionals often take care of big plants in offices.

if you can’t separate these, some of them could be chopped out as big cuttings to throw into a new pot.

I received a gift basket with something like this, separated them all, rinsed the roots and planted them in semi-hydro/Leca

Separate otherwise inevitably a few will beat out the rest and kill them. Doing 2-3 plants in one pot can work but this is overkill lol. Looks beautiful though!

Just to help you in case you (hopefully) decide to separate them, the plants are:
Philodendron hederaceum
Maranta leuconeura ‘erythrophylla’
Dieffenbachia seguine ‘camille’
Chamaedorea elegans
Dracaena marginata
There’s another Dracaena species, and what I think is a Spathiphyllum in there aswell, but it’s hard to tell among the others.

love stuff like this.

But… why are they in the same pot to begin with!?

Please take it apart and repot individually asap!!! I received something like this as a gift and lost 2/3 of the plants after leaving them together and hoping it would work.
They may still be in their little dirt circles just pressed together in there.

I’m a little concerned about what looks like white powder/specks on the leaves. Have you inspected these closely? I can’t tell from the pictures—could just be dust, but could potentially be insects.

Any time I find/receive plants together like this in one pot, I immediately separate them.
Do as I do, AND as I say 😎

I’m kind of pissed off all of them still look so healthy. It’s the weirdest combo ive seen so far.

watering difficulty aside, i find it a pretty arrangement

I worked for a florist in the 80’s when people actually sent things through florists and these dish gardens were popular but not exactly practical. Designed to look nice without much thought to long term viability. I’d say enjoy it and see what survives with easy care.

Lots of nice plants in there- repot separately if you want them to live!!

I had a very similar pot in my office. Received it as a gift. Kept it in the same pot and it did fine for 1.5 years. Then COVID happened. When I was cleaning out my office 3 months later, only two plants were still alive. They are actually still together 5 years later living in a dark corner of my house.

It’s so pretty… and I know how you feel… I bought this a while back and enjoyed it for 2 weeks bc it looks so pretty.. but then finally separated all 5… (2 hoyas/mathilde splash & a burtoniae, 1 silvery Anne sindapdus, 1 asparagus fern, and a red fittonia) So different ~ I watered them with a spray bottle the first week and then finally decided if I wanted them to live I’d better bite the bullet and put them in their own homes and they are all doing great actually..

I see soo many of these that look incredibly beautiful… and then procede to walk away. Im too OCD for all of that business. Looks great, but HELL NO!

I got something similar and repotted all of them together in a bigger pot. It was in mostly moss so I’m glad I did. You might check. But they are all thriving.

I had the same plants in mine. I broke it down and reported them all separately…

i hate this! haha

I keep my Calathea about 2.5 metres from a south facing window, and make sure to water it when it’s half dry. They’re picky, but they respond well once you get to know them. 🙂

I think I got this exact same arrangement! After enjoying it in its original pot for a while, I separated each of the different plants out into their own pots. They’re all doing great almost two years later.

I got this same arrangement! I separated each plant and they are all doing great 10 months later.

I wonder what’s really going on under all the leaves. Do a little investigating, they may be in separate smaller pots in there.

Buy new pots and replant them asap.

I had a pathos and orchid in one pot from the store. Poor poor orchid. He’s been separated and is in his own wood chip bowl. Had so many rotted roots. Hope he bounces back.
