The accolade is a recognition of the dedication and hard work of the Friends of Coy Pond volunteer gardeners.

With nine acres in total, the park features 180 metres of rock garden along Bourne Valley and a variety of trees and shrubs surrounding the half-acre pond itself.

The Friends have also added half a dozen new gardens, helping the pond scoop the ‘Large Public Space’ category prize.

Prizes were handed out on Wednesday, October 22 at The Italian Villa in Compton Acres, sponsors of Poole in Bloom.

Wayne Hancock, chair of the Friends, was presented with the Blue Plaque commemorating their success by Kate Merna, co-owner of Compton Acres.

The Italian Villa was packed for the evening, the evening being Poole’s horticultural equivalent of the Oscars.
