$6,000 saved by 2 days of sweat, tears, and some rock glue ‼️Day 1 of prep for the BIG day so let’s DIY this pathway out to our soccer field 🙌🏻 #diy #backyard #partyprep #walkway #makeover

on a mission to create a walkway from our yard out to our soccer field. Yes, we have a soccer field in our backyard, but as you can see right now, to get there, we have to stumble across a bunch of uneven ground and weeds, and that is just simply not working. The problem is we were quoted $6,000 to have this done. So, I just decided we’re going to do it ourselves. First up, I brought this billy goat from our friend down the road. This is a machine that just cuts down everything in your way to give the yard one big reset. This thing was great. And I definitely need to attack the rest around the soccer field as well, but I own the prize here. We’ll get to that later. Now, the timing is what’s important here because we’re actually hosting our massive annual Halloween party this year on our soccer field. So today marks day one of getting ready for our Halloween party. And this is something that we wanted to do for a really long time. So with all that flattened out, we decided to just kind of carve a basic shape for the walkway. Right now there’s just a bunch of weeds and mold. So we raaked out a semi somewhat straight path in the direction that we needed it to go. Now I’m just trying to get this all done. I was ready to lay down the next step, but my husband insisted that we at least level out the area a little bit. Huge shout out to our friends here who have some experience with this. They helped us so much with this extremely tedious task. He brought over his compactor and we just wet and compacted the entire area as best as we could before rolling out the weed barrier landscape fabric. You can kind of see the project coming together already, but from there we took this garden edging. This is going to keep everything somewhat in place. You just kind of roll it out, stake it down. But the problem with this is that in our area, the land is basically straight up clay. So, we struggled getting the plastic stakes into the ground that came with the kit and ended up resorting to some long nails instead, which was so much easier. But girl, this took so long. We ended up skipping quite a few holes and just doing some every few feet. But the prep work is officially done. Now, moving on to the fun part, the design. We decided to go with these 24in x 24 in square PA stones that we found from Home Depot, which are extremely heavy by the way. Each stone is 90 lb. Yes. Each. So, not only was this labor intensive, but we also had to make several trips back and forth to Home Depot. So, we just kind of eyeballed this again, placing the stones down roughly every 9 in apart or so from one another before picking out the filler rock. So, this is called pearavevel. It’s very cost-effective way and cute in my opinion once you see the finished product to kind of fill the space in between the pavers. But our space is pretty stinking big about 60 ft long to be exact. So, we ordered two yards of it for a little over $200. And let me tell you, this went a long way. So, the place we got it from was able to actually drop it off. And then from there, we shoveled it foot by foot, raking it and leveling it as we go. I say we, but my husband did all of this. But the hardest parts were officially done. The vision is coming to life. We trimmed up the edges. And thanks to Tik Tok, we found this glue. It’s called mulch glue. And this works wonder. You mix it with one part water, one part glue, put it into a pump sprayer, and you just go to town. Not only was it extremely easy, but it worked pretty much right away. It does say to do three coats of this, but even after the first one, the rocks were locked in solid. I’m talking almost as hard as concrete. This prevents rocks from being kicked up and moved around, and it was just the best. But just like that, we cleaned up the sides. I do think I might add some little plants or lights along the walkway. But for a quick two-day project, I am so happy with how this turned out. Let me know what you think and we’ll be on to the next project

  1. Too bad you didn't do it right, using a stringline and a level, at just a glance you can see how unlevel and not plumb the pavers are, ya'll didn't even put sand down first, you winged it and it looks it….sad and lazy, not to mention inept

  2. Beautiful property. Love the path. Some kind of lighting is needed for late evening lighting. I would suggest trees for future shade and privacy.

  3. This looks amazing but….. It's not straight!! 😭😭😭 It's driving me crazy. Y'all should have used wood in between to make sure the lines are straight all the way down. But it still looks good!!

  4. heyyy jesss i think you should do like a lil plant line up on the right but like a garden bush on the left js my opinion i think i would make the space so cute

  5. Everyone seems to be making these walkways recently. I cant even imagine the huge lake that will form with no drainage at a slope. As the land underneath dries and shifts; so will the pavers.
