The show, which follows a bomb-disposal unit from the Metropolitan Police led by Lana Washington (Vicky McClure, MBE), returned to the nation’s screens for the first episode of its third season on Sunday, October 26.
Viewers might have spotted that the entire episode saw Lana and her team rushing around the unoccupied Welwyn Garden City factory, which is currently in the planning stage for major redevelopment, to try and save the day and unravel yet another terrorist plot.
Maanuv Thiara, who plays DI Amar Batra and briefly starred alongside Vicky McClure in Line of Duty, talked about getting “covered in mud” during their time filming at the factory, described as a “wasteland” in the show, with conditions in the dead of winter proving tricky to navigate.

“When we got there we had to lose the first day of filming because the place was like a bog and none of our trucks could get to set,” he said.
Vicky gave viewers an insight into Lana Washington’s mindset going into the third season, who, according to the 42-year-old actor, model and presenter, is “not coping” well with the stress that comes with the high-octane bomb-disposal job.
“Lana is a strong person,” she said, “and she likes to see herself as a perfectionist, but I think we very quickly see that’s starting to crumble.”
“We are going to be dealing with PTSD, plus she’s struggling with tinnitus, and she is relying on medication to get her through.

“She’s quite a lonely character at the beginning of the series.”
Season two of the show, which aired last year, averaged 8.1 million viewers and was streamed 30 million times on ITVX, making it the second most watched drama on ITV1 in 2024 (behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office).
Following the second season’s success, Trigger Point received a special honour this year when Her Majesty The Queen visited the set and met with the team to mark the start of ITV’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Executive producer Jed Mercurio, OBE, also of Line of Duty fame, said: “It’s always a great feeling to be working on a show where the fans are watching it and they want more.
“I’m really thrilled that so many people are watching Trigger Point but that doesn’t mean that we take anything for granted – we have to offer them the best version of the show otherwise they’ll just watch something else.”
Season three will air on Sundays and Mondays on ITV1 and STV, at 9pm, and will be available to stream on ITVX and STV Player, with series one and two also available to watch on ITVX.
The first two episodes have already hit the screens, but viewers will have to wait until Monday, November 10, for the season finale.
