Completely inexperienced here. Now I come to think about it they might be too shallow. Also, why are the stems dropping? Is that normal?

    If these are scallions, you’re fine. If they make bulbs, they’re way too close together. Yes, you can put them a bit deeper. When you think of spacing, think how big the vegetables are intended to be and think that in order to get that size they need sun and not shade from their neighbors. Also, air circulation helps lower the chance of developing diseases.
