Is it reasonable to ask my lawn service to do something different to avoid these bald spots, or is this inevitable when you’re mowing at light speed in a zero turn?
Tell them to pay you for the damages, then tell them if they don’t do a better job you’ll find a new company.

It’s the mark of someone who doesn’t know how to use a zero turn. When turning you should always keep both wheels moving. This happens when you just stop the inside wheel an turn on a dime. Total hack move. Tell them to fix it or not to come back again.

That’s why it’s better to do two laps around the outer edge as your perimeter, that way you can make more gradual turns on your down and backs.

Yes it’s reasonable. They’re professionals. They need to act like it.

3-point turns reduces this, but no one likes to with a zero turn

Stop using lawn services who use zero turns for tiny yards and drive at highway speed so that they can do 6 yards in the same street.
Pay by the time they spend on your lawn. If they finish in25 minutes they aren’t worth the price of a guy who takes an hour.
