I got this fella about 5 years ago as a housewarming gift and he was quite happy in my old, dark house (see pics).

I moved in May of this year into a top floor fishbowl apartment and he went floppy. My boyfriend attempted to keep him upright with sticks and twine as you can see. The roots are also coming out the bottom so might be overcrowded.

He lives in my office and I think he might get too much sunlight. There’s no chance he’s overwatered (prob watering once a month mac) and I do believe there’s decent drainage. How do I make him happy like he was in December and Feb, and how do I keep him upright besides spinning him?

Thanks for all your help plant friends!

TBH, ZZ’s actually thrive with sunlight. When was the last time you repotted? How often do you fertilize? When you water, are you doing so thoroughly with water coming out bottom of pot or a small amount of water? All of these could be impacting growth.

Untie it. ZZs are not upright plants.

That ZZ looks like an adult squeezed into a school uniform. I know they like to be cramped but I think you can get that one a bigger pot.

Has that pot got drainage holes? If not that’s also a big problem!

i think they hate direct sun! i put mine in my bathroom away from windows and it’s thriving now after looking sad like yours. maybe try a spot with less light?
