I think I’m just gonna go and buy a smaller tree. I took a gamble with this one bc it was a special sycamore cultivar they only had in #7 containers, but man. This cinnamon roll of a root ball is just so bad and idk how I can get the main flare root to be BELOW the flare. It literally circles up.

Thing was buried at least 5” too deep, I can’t.
If you plant something that was in a pot for too long, just cut the roots from top to bottom all the way 5-6 times and the roots won’t grow in circles. You can easily save this tree buy cutting all the roots at maybe 5-7 inches away from the stem and stretch the bigger roots as much as possible, if the don’t stretch- cut them off. Digg a hole which is big enough and water it well, at least 30-40 litres, so that the soil gets really muddy and can get a good grip around the roots. A friend of mine had an apple tree from a pot and after 6 years it was still wobbling around all the time and he had it tied up to three poles. So I simply cut the roots with a spade (making a star pattern) like 5-6 times and 2 weeks later the tree stood firmly. I couldn’t believe it myself.
But: I can’t see in the picture how big the canopy is. Since you’ll cut off roots, you’ll have to adjust the canopy surface somehow to the amount of roots, otherwise it won’t provide enough water and nutrients for the canopy.
