Morning gardeners. It’s Friday the 24th of October and oh my goodness, the weather is really getting cold now. The nighttime temperatures in particular are dropping. But I just want to have a quick flick around the garden and then we’ll have a slow walk around and I’ll show you what we’ve still got to eat because there’s plenty in the garden that gives us good eating right the way through the really cold period. There’s some beautiful little purple top turnips. Look at them. Aren’t they gorgeous? Lovely ones. Bigger than a golf ball. Be putting a few of them for tomorrow’s dinner. There’s plenty of beetroot for leaves and it looks pretty nice. There’s lettuce in amongst the beetroot over there. Beautiful lettuce that one is. I have no idea what variety because it was a mixed bunch. There is a few carrots there because if you recall, I put carrots all the way around the garden. White ninestar broccoli. Now, that’s nice. Shredded up and used in a stir fry. The leaves are gorgeous. They’re sweet and tender and the stalks are beautiful. My fennel, look at it. I’ve left it alone. And the seeds are lovely. It’s nice to wander around the garden, put a few seeds off because the ana seed flavor is really, really nice on the fennel. There’s tons of cilaria. Now these are my spare cabbages. And what I’m finding actually, no, not cabbages. This a cabbage. There’s beetroot, carrots, some I’m leaving the bean there. That’s a French bean. I’m leaving that for the seeds. And that cabbage is a little bit eaten. And I’ve got big like a horned caterpillar. No idea what variety they are. They’re not hairy, but I’m picking them off over nighttime. And slugs continue to be the bane of my life. I got 222 on Wednesday and another 176 last night. Cabbages here are starting to heart up nicely. Plenty of chard, plenty of kale. The daria look beautiful. In fact, I need to come out and give them a good dead head. So, I’ll be giving them a good dead head. And it’s weird to think that I’ll get up one morning and they’ll all be a blackened mess. The frost will have struck them back. And I don’t normally lift my dalia. Never have in the past, but this year I just might. Everyone seems to be lifting theirs. I don’t normally bother, but this year I just might. Look at the chard. It’s beautiful. This thing grows so quickly. I’m taking some of it for my friend’s guinea pig. We don’t know whether they’ll light them, so we’ll have a little look. The rose continues to be an absolute delight. The scent is gorgeous. And look at that beautiful purple pens. Isn’t that lovely? I have no idea what this pink flower is. I keep meaning to get the packets out. This was some of that very, very outofdate seed and it has flowered all summer. And these little things, a fragrance off them. It’s like powdered sugar or maybe sherbet. The scent is incredible on a nighttime. So, I come out of a nighttime to slug hunt and the scent is incredible. Miniature sunflower continues to be a joy. And look at the busy lizies. Aren’t they beautiful? It does look very, very pretty and colorful at the moment. I’ll do a little run from that side just so you can see what we’ve got. There’s plenty of nicotana all around the garden. I don’t reckon much to the fragrance of them. I’m hoping to grow bugmansia angel’s trumpets next year and we’ll see how that compares. the self-seeded viola that I’ve divided up and popped around the garden and now starting to bush out nicely. I’ve got tomatoes on the green stalk. I really need to get them all harvested. I’ve got tomatoes everywhere. If you look, 24th of October and there’s some there. And the pumpkins now. Never grown these small ones before. Are they okay to leave them outdoors a bit longer or should I be bringing them in? If you can advise me, I would appreciate it. Look at the colors in this chard. Oh, it’s so beautiful. And that will be beautiful all the way through winter. Gorgeous beetroot. I’ve got plenty of beetroot. I’ve got potatoes in buckets. Let me just walk backwards a bit here without breaking my neck. So, I’ll do a little run around the garden now and I’ll just say I hope your weather remains warm for a little longer. It’s not too bad. The green stalks all need a refresh, but I’m going to leave it till the spring. Now, I’m waiting for my new one to arrive, and that will be the indoor green stalk. And I’m going to keep that in my porch. And if you recall, if you’re wanting one from the UK, rooted in Bolton. Have a little look at their website. Treat yourself. Buy yourself one for Christmas. It is an amazing thing. You can’t believe how big they are. When they arrive, you’ll be staggered at just how big they are. Oh, I forgot to say carrots. These carrots, every time I thin them, continue to amaze me. They are enormous. Beautiful things. So, that is just step back a bit. The garden with so much edible stuff on the 24th of October. And I’ll just say enjoy your gardens, everybody. Make the most of them. Get outdoors while you can, while the weather’s still decent because it’s not too bad today. I think we will forecast rain, but no, it’s not too bad today, but it isn’t very warm. And I think we’ll finish up with a quick run around with all the different flowers. That croissant there has been going for years. It’s beautiful. Those there were a mixed pot of three and slugs have decimated them, but I’m getting my own back. They are being dispatched. Plenty of busy lizy still going strong. I think they must be tough up north. But look at that. There is so much greenery. It’s so so pretty still. Long may it continue. Happy gardening, folks.

The fennel looks gorgeous. And now I'm really fancying some turnip for the beef casserole planned for this weekend.
Your slug counts are crazy!!!
@2:58 the pink flowers look to be Anemones. I love Fennel seed! It's the best tea for settling stomach upsets, even stomach ulcers. Thank you for showing us your blessed garden. 🤗
Looking lovely Missy and your voice sounds a lot better. It’s all looking so lovely Cherie, we have pouring rain and high wind here. 😮😮holy 💩 that’s a lot of slugs. I may just unpot my dahlia and dry store them. Wow sunflowers still you go girl. Have a fantastic weekend, Ali ☔️☔️☔️🇨🇦
Have you considered keeping your slugs in water in a sealed container so you can collect all the nematodes and the water your growing spaces with it, and slugs it comes into contact will eventually die naturally.
♻️Happy slug free gardening, Terry King.
