Hello all! I just recently purchased this Alocasia bambino from Trader Joe’s and noticed that some of the leaves have this browning as you can see from the photos. I am unsure what the root cause would be and am seeking advice on what the diagnosis is! Is it rust? Humidity? Rot? I have not cleaned the leaves yet as well and wanted to show photos of what I am working with. Please let me know what you think and how I should go about treating the plant to prevent this from occurring further. Thank you 🎃

Looks like it’s acclimating to your new space.
Prior to purchase, did you inspect for bugs; inspect the roots; signs of damage and/or bugs?
IME, when purchasing a new juvenile plant, I expect to lose a leaf or two as it acclimates to my home.
Since the plant is new, it should have been washed off and quarantined. If you haven’t done so, do that now. Then place the plant in pot inside of a clear plastic bag and place in a sunny place. This will create a humidity zone around the plant. Open the bag for 15 / 20 minutes a day to give the plant some fresh air. Leave in the bag and monitor for the next two to three weeks.
Lets us know how that works out.
Thank you for your response! I literally just purchased it about an hour ago and I noticed the leaves in this state at Trader Joe’s. Nearly all of the bambino’s had this sort of leaf browning. There didn’t seem to be any dying leaves actively on the plant and is actually putting out a new one. I just got done cleaning off the plant with my special concoction of isopropyl and castille soap. I did not notice any bugs on the plant when I was there and did not inspect the roots since the soil was pretty wet when I purchased the plant.
Is it possible that it was acclimating to the environment at Trader Joe’s? Where I live, it is already getting pretty cold and the plants were sitting on a window sill. Maybe it is stressed from that?
