Had some next level strong winds that tore this tree in half. Can I pull it back together and rope it back up? Will it have any chance of binding or do I just cut off the broken half and hope for the best?
Thanks!
Only roping might not work, the faces must be joined together very firmly. This might sound stupid but it works: Screw it together with 3-4 screws and then tie the canopy together with a rope for around 1 year. But first, scratch the surface of the bark very carefully along the ripped sides, (till you can see the fragile, shiny green layer) to provoke a reaction from the cambium. Cambium cells grow very fast and they might manage to grow together again. This will always be a very weak spot, though. You should always prevent forks!

Plant a new tree, that damage will never heal properly…

It might work but it’ll probably be weak for the rest of the tree’s life. Might be better to just remove the less stable side.

I’d join it with screws and then cut off the smaller side of the two in the spring.
If you join it, the tree will be weak in that spot and eventually split again.

You can do whatever you want. Doesn’t mean it would work in the long run.

Bro thas a shrub. Look how many leaders it had. The structure was fucked from the day you bought it. Get another one with a central leader and this probably won’t happen again.
