On October 2nd and 8th, I visited the Barakura English Garden in Tateshina Highlands, Nagano Prefecture.
In October, the garden celebrates the “Barakura Harvest Festival,” featuring a pumpkin harvest display and a container gardening exhibition.

The container gardening exhibition was held from October 1st to October 14th.
Due to rain on the first day, I visited on the 2nd.
(It’s important to visit early, as the flowers will wilt over time.)

From October 8th to 13th, the garden hosted concerts by His Majesty the King’s Military Band.
Please take a look at the video of the free concert held at the garden.
I was moved to tears by the performance of the Japanese children’s song “Akatombo.”

Hello, this is Ichiro! 😊 I visited the Tateshina Plateau Barakura English Garden in Nagano Prefecture twice in October. Thursday, October 2, 2025 October is the Barakura Harvest Festival, so a harvest display using pumpkins is on display, and a “Container Gardening Exhibition” is also being held. The Royal Marines Band will be performing from October 8th to October 13th. Today, I came to enjoy the container gardening exhibition and dahlias! Before that, I was greeted by the lovely dried flower shop, Mugi no Hana. This shop makes me feel so festive and excited!👍 Oh, there’s a giant pumpkin! I almost passed it by!😅 I love this “21st Century Dome” and its symbolic tree, the “Golden Acacia.” I’m slowly filming the works from the “Container Gardening Exhibition.” The “Container Gardening Exhibition” was judged a while ago, and the winning works have already been decided. The works are created so that the flowers are at their peak on the day of judging, so they wilt over time. It rained yesterday, the first day of the gardening exhibition, so I came today. Apparently, the judging also considers the harmony of the works with the container. I’m not judging, so I’m just enjoying the autumn flowers. ✌️ I think I like this one. 👍 Entry #16 won the “Master Category Grand Prize.” Entry #16 was re-filmed at a later date, so please take a look at it later. Please enjoy the works for a while. Entry #33 won the “General Category Grand Prize.” This is the work that won the “General Category Grand Prize.” “Master Category Grand Prize” (filmed later) Now, let’s take a walk around the garden! Let’s walk around the garden clockwise as usual. Harvest display using pumpkins 😊 Sleeping bear ✌️ As expected, the main harvest display is spectacular 😮 Lots of butterflies on the buddleia 😊 Buddleia is also known as the “butterfly bush” (a flower that butterflies love). Autumn flower, Japanese anemone 😊 The flower language of Japanese anemone is “faint feelings.” Dahlia 😃 At the end of this walk, you’ll find the “Dahlia Garden” ✌️ It’s a beautiful day 👍 “Alice in Wonderland Garden” Rose Pergola You can see the Dahlia Garden 😊 Restaurant “Giartino” Pavilion Let’s walk along the Bird Path! There aren’t many flowers, but it’s my favorite path! Wild birds chirping 😃 There was a red dragonfly 👍 The news said that red dragonflies are rapidly declining due to pesticides 🙏 The meadow saffrons are in bloom. The meaning of meadow saffron is, “My best days are behind me.” What a sad meaning! “Dahlia Garden” Six days later, The Royal Marines Band performed in the square in front. Please watch at the end of the video. Six days later, the number of flowers in this dahlia garden has increased. Let’s enjoy the popular apple pie. This is a Barakura specialty made with apples from the local town of Tateshina. It was delicious! 👍 Six days later… It’s amazing to be able to hear The Royal Marines Band perform in Japan! 😃 Apparently, they’ve performed at events hosted by His Majesty the King and at state functions. Six days later, a selection of British classic cars was on display. Afterwards, I was unexpectedly moved to tears by the performance of the Japanese children’s song “Red dragonflies.” “Red dragonflies in the faint glow of the setting sun ♪” “It was so long ago when I saw them while being carried on my older sister’s back ♪” “My older sister got married at the age of 15 ♪” “News from home has finally stopped ♪” “Red dragonflies in the faint glow of the setting sun ♪” “I can see them, perched on the end of a pole ♪”

  1. Beautiful tour, I didn't expect to see our English Royal Marines playing in Japan. You have so many flowers still blooming that are finished over here. Our Dahlia's are still going strong though like the ones in the film. Thank youxx
