I’ll post more photos of the damage in the comments. It seems to be a caterpillar of some type and I also see little black specs in some places. This is on my sage plant but I also found the same damage on my inch plant. They were nearby each other for a bit.
Sharing because Reddit made me to be able to share this post despite it not being useful here. I water from the bottom when it looks thirsty and it gets light from a south window all day.
