OK so ever since moving in I have wanted to combat the moss that's been taking over the garden, I knew there must have been a moss issue as I found a bottle of some old brown moss killer stuff left in the garage.

I applied Iron Sulphate and turned all the moss black then a week later scarified it with an attachment on a petrol cylinder mower shown in the images.

I removed a hell of alot of moss but I have been left with this.

I'm guessing this was all hidden under the moss etc and the scarifier has like combed it up or something?

Have I messed up?

Thanks

No that’s perfect. If it doesn’t look absolutely hideous, you haven’t scarified enough.

Should all come back in a few weeks. I use the moss and weed granules and usually goes patchy looking like I’ve killed the grass. Be fine with a little time ☺️

You haven’t messed up. This looks good, shows you how much moss there was. Now feed it (and water if required) and it’ll come back in a few weeks.

It always looks terrible before it recovers, make sure to apply some grass feed and water when needed and it will come back better than ever.

Its fine. I tend not to scarify this late in the year but don’t panic, it will be fine.

I did mine 2 weeks ago and looked like this. I put down a generous amount of feed n weed a few days later

Its currently bright green and theres been a noticeable increase in birds catching worms from it which I presume is a good sign.

    Its also draining better now.

Wrong time of the year but it will be OK. I scarified mine at the end of spring and then heatwaves started. My garden turned into a desert. Rains returned in August and it looks all green and full of new grass now.

It always looks worse after but if you seed now with good quality seed and top dress that so it doesn’t all get eaten by birds – you will have a luscious lawn by May.

    Looks just ok to me.

A bit late in the season to do this but it’ll be fine.

Aerate it and and feed it.

Perfect. Mine looks as bare as a chimpanzee’s ass when I scarified my back lawn

Grass is super tough, it will soon bounce back

I have a meadow and post scarification it looks like the first day of the Somme.
Couple of weeks later it looks like Watership Down sans rabbits.
You will soon see a difference

Looks good, might be a bit late now to re seed (because the temps have dropped in the last couple of weeks)but maybe just get some cheap grass seed, chuck it down and hope for the best? Worst case is that you have to chuck some more seed in May

Looks bad but grass recovers quickly. I would get an autumn/winter feed like Elixir which has all the essential nutrients grass needs. Do it now and repeat in a couple of months and follow up in the spring with a spring/summer type. Make sure though that the feed is watered in.

How is this good? All the grass looks dead!
