KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Dozens of guns are off the streets in Kansas City after a Guns to Gardens event.

It happened Saturday morning at Central Presbyterian Church as people were able to safely turn in unwanted firearms.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson said the event goes a long way toward keeping the community safe.

“The majority of our homicides that occur — or the majority of assaults that occur in our community are done through the commission of using a gun,” Johnson said. “So anytime we can use any metric to get some of those dangerous weapons out of our community, preventing suicide, reducing the amount of harm that can be inflicted, I am happy to be here to support.”
