What’s still flowering in your garden? Here’s what I got, Southern New England.

Blanket flowers and aromatic Aster here in St Louis. In our church garden, some of our swamp milkweeds are still in full bloom. It seems to be the only swamp milkweeds still blooming in the city. All my milkweeds in my home garden are dormant.

We saw it because we were at church on Wednesday and today because we have been prepping an old bed (we are installing a butterfly/moth host plant garden with the youth groups tomorrow). We were shocked to see not only the blooms but also a visiting monarch 😊

I still see California poppy blooms early today.

I have some coneflowers, but that’s about it. I’m in year 1, so I don’t know if I did something wrong, or if the plants just weren’t strong enough to last very long this year. Will be anxiously awaiting spring next year to see what comes back!

Lance-leaf coreopsis! I planted a little fella in May and it is been blooming since at least July. Also a few New England asters and Canada goldenrods still have some flowers.

  5. I’m in more like…central New England? And coreopsis and some rudbeckia hanging on by a thread. Asters just ended where I am. Really it’s the foliage’s turn right now, then witch hazel, then the long dark of winter.

I have quite a few coneflowers still blooming, which is crazy because they were my first blooms way back in may. A few scraggly black eyed Susan’s and zinnias are still going strong. Yarrow is just barely hanging on. My azaleas are spitting out a few more blooms (when should they even be blooming, I have no idea). Asters and sneezeweed still going. Honestly my garden looks like crap but it’s still trucking. I even have some wax leaf begonias still going strong (don’t come for my begonias, I can’t give them up).

We had a draught this year in Michigan up into late summer/early autumn so my mist flowers I transported in late summer died back fairly early. All of my asters got used up already and are going to seed. It’s pretty cold here already (40-50’s) so everything’s spent, gone to see, and getting used by the migrating birds
