A FREE drop-off service for garden organic waste will be provided by Wollongong City Council in November at Corrimal and Helensburgh.

The collection events are designed for residents to get their gardens ready for summer and need to dispose of excess household green waste that won’t fit into their green-lidded bin. This includes leaves, small branches and garden pruning.

Wollongong Lord Mayor Tania Brown said the green waste drop-off events lend a hand to those carrying out extra spring cleaning of their gardens.

“As we near summer, these events will also support our community who are doing more garden pruning than usual to get their property bushfire ready,” Cr Brown said.

“We encourage people to be proactive to manage bush fire risks and be assured that any extra small branches, fallen leaves and twigs can be dropped off at our free events.

“There are three events across three Sundays in November. So, make sure to see when is best for you.”

There is a limit on the size of branches that can be accepted. Branches   can be no larger than 750mm in diameter and should be no longer than roughly 1m in length.

Any branches larger than this, that can’t be broken down, will need to be dropped off at Council’s Whytes Gully waste facility in Kembla Grange. Fees are associated with this service, visit Council’s website for more details.

The free drop-off events are for Wollongong residents only, not for commercial businesses.

Bring along proof that you live in the Wollongong City Council area, such as a driver’s license. Community members are reminded to stay in their vehicles while attending.
