Pinus parviflora pentaphyla glauca
Seeking advice on how to create a proportional canopy. There is for branches growing at the top. One straight and the others to the sides. How do i decide which to keep?
Ahh the start of everything great, it taking shape already!

I like the pot, but putting it in a much larger one/the ground (at the appropriate time) would give it the best shot at developing more growth quickly. I’d probably keep as much foliage on there too for now.
If you kept the vertical branch as the leader and removed the horizontal branch going to the left you wouldn’t have any lower branches. If you did that it might make sense to grow it much bigger so it looks a bit more proportional.
If you kept the left growing branch and removed the vertical branch, it would have a nice shape, but I would probably let it grow a few years before doing that to get nice and strong first.
You could just keep both and see what it looks like too, might give a nice informal upright in time.
It could also be fun to wrap it and do some harsh bending with a thick wire to completely change the shape.
I would take some time to consider the options while it grows strong. No need to rush.

Just finish wiring the top, no need to cut anything more.

You will have to deal with those whorls sooner rather than later so you don’t end up with bulges in the trunk line every few inches. Select branches for movement and alternating/differing direction
