Got a call from a hysterical lady. She and her neighbor asked for a quote from these snakes to remove 2 trees. Didn’t approve the quote as they have to get permission from the HOA. The guy from cheap and great says he needs to “mark” the trees so his guys can see them once the quote is approved. Yall aren’t gonna believe this.

    Oh they’re soooo fucked.

These trees HAVE to be cut down now. There’s no way they’ll heal right. If ever.

You think you’ve seen it all… this is an insane thing to do as a business practice. But also like what is the plan? Fell them that way??

r/treelaw might be a good place to visit next.

Wow. I have never seen this before. I can only think the arborist was attempting to ensure the HOA would grant permission with such huge cuts into the main stem. This downright baffles me.

We like to use big red bows to mark removals believe it or not. (Other than city or county required notice) They can lead to more business.

Besides this being absolutely insane those are atrocious trashy cuts.

I know of 6 different times that this has happened in the last few weeks by these guys. This is the first one I’ve seen in person.

Omg. You’re going to need to build another house.

For real.?! Personally I always thought spray paint was excessive.

Cheap and great needs to be sued into oblivion. That is the most insane way to mark trees I have ever seen. A can of marking spray paint is $5. A roll of neon flagging tape is even less. These two options are commonplace industry standards. The only reason to mark them this way, in my mind, is so that the potential customer commits. “Well, he’s already started cutting. I guess we move forward with the removal.”

Nevermind that they are bad cuts in the wrong places. He’s a liability waiting to happen. Dude needs to go out of business yesterday.

  10. I would have climbed them but after that cut I’ll pass.

Don’t accept the quote. Do not let them “fix” this for you… even if they offer to cut them down for free I wouldn’t let them – those cuts are wrong and there’s a real risk of the tree damaging the house.

You want a different arborist to fix the mess they created.

And you want a lawyer – because I would triple my quote to cut those trees down compared to what it would normally cost. The cuts have weakened the tree and a weak tree is much harder to safely remove.

Police should have been the first call!

Bet the price just doubled when they come back. What if the HOA doesn’t approve it?

GOD I love this sub. Every time i think its just gonna be just tree pics or something normally normal, y’all find a way to make it AWESOMELY weird…. 🍿

Who lets somebody they haven’t paid fire up a chainsaw and start touching their damn trees??

In my entire career I’ve never seen something so egregious. I’m stuck here wondering, as a sales arborist who could you report this to that would be able to fine/reprimand a company like this? I’ve had to send some stuff to ISA and BBB before in my years but this needs a whole other level of FAFO. Chances are they are not ISA accredited so I’m going to assume that reporting to the ISA is not going to accomplish anything anyways.

“The HOA will only allow you to remove these if they’re a hazard, gotcha”

That’s fucking *wild*. Dude needs to be out of business yesterday.

Holy shit, they cut almost all the way through the trunk in that last picture. One big gust of wind and it’s over.
