I just got it like 1.5 weeks ago. I am planning on repotting but I’m not sure what’s wrong with it right now. Watering it sparsely, does not sit in direct sunlight.

You’re only supposed to water snake plants about once a month, or even less often

Looks dehydrated and needs more indirect bright light.

A snake plant can be watered once a month and depending on the climate and the size of the pot. Soil has to be completely dried out before watering. Never water any Houseplants on a schedule, invest in a moisture meter and the weight of the weight of the plant/pot will tell you if it needs water or not. Very dry soil and plant will feel a lot lighter.

Are the leaves mushy? It could be overwatered. I have gotten root rot with snake plants when the soil was not well-draining or they were overwatered.

Mine started doing this and I almost never watered it so I’m very confused by these comments 😭

way overwatered. too dense of substrate. and, as is almost always true, it wants more light, but those first two things are most relevant here.

Snakes need to be almost ignored to thrive. I watered mine maybe once monthly and it sits next to my back window. She’s also got several babies around the house. They’re so easy to propagate.

This is not and I repeat not from overwatering… the detective is in and has reviewed the evidence… wrinkling shriveled foliage, brown paper thin tips, chunky soil lots of bark looks dry to the eye…

You should water more. May be by a heater or air or warm/humid environment etc. Over water would not shrivel up anything top first. Thats an all or nothing for overwatering. The bottom may go first with overwatering or the entire leaf…. no water or needs a bit more please looks like ur plant. Doing good but needs a lil more. May also need nutrients. I suggest a 10 10 10 fertilizer such as orgabic fish emulsion. Plants love it and it works without harming the plant and nutrients stay in soil and soak into plant well. Blessings!

Water it weekly but you need to repot into a bigger pot

    Also,
Make sure it’s not sitting in water. It looks like it’s a pot within a pot? Pulling it out of that inner pot for the time being to let it dry out.

I don’t agree with these answers. Could be irregular watering. The oldest leaves look like they dried up and that’s why one has folded.
I water my snake plants once a week. And I live in the north. Sure I water less now that it’s becoming so dark. Just make sure not to overwater; if it’s still wet after a week, you have overwatered it, so pay attention and then water less when you start watering again(when soil has dried up plus some extra days).

I dare to disagree with everyone else because my snakeplants grow like crazy. I need to keep giving them away every year. I’m getting new shoots from April to September minimum. Leaves grow even up to 140cm. And flowers every spring. I fertilize super irregularly, maybe twice/summer. Been doing this for +20 years.

I’ve tried watering less and sure the plants survive(with couple of bent leaves)but they won’t grow fast or at all.

Honestly I have no clue what people are doing while watering if their plants can only handle the next watering in a month. Maybe they have too big pots cause these plants don’t like to be “alone”. Like you should not repot that yet unless it’s in peat soil/still in the original soil you bought that. Tho I would pick it up and check the roots incase you actually have been flooding it haha.

Just give some water regularly with good light and you are good. Plant food if you remember. This is the easiest plant IMO.

Looks mushy from too much water. You can abuse these guys so hard and they don’t get weird unless you water them too often.
